History

3 Rivergate was a large, dated office building that occupies a central position on Rivergate Street, Temple Quay. The existing building lacked architectural appeal and interest and failed to draw users in and identify itself in what is a harsh, repetitive urban setting.

Vision

The vision was to create a strong design concept, one that maximises the potential of 3 Rivergate and re-establishes the building's ability to deliver exceptional floor space within a competitive office sector. Key drivers are identity, health, wellbeing, and sustainability. As part of this vision, 3 Rivergate’s identity is further enhanced through the introduction of new branding, an elevated external environment, and a well-considered material palette that flows seamlessly throughout the building.

Design Intent

The design intent for 3 Rivergate focuses on creating a welcoming and visually striking arrival experience that enhances the building’s identity and functionality. External works comprise a contemporary branded entrance with planters, feature signage, and strategic lighting establishes a strong first impression while improving the building’s presence within the urban landscape.

An inviting entrance was designed to entice occupiers and visitors into a revitalised reception area, with the intention of being both aesthetically engaging and highly functional. The reception space needed to enhance the front-of-house experience with clear wayfinding, designated areas for arrival and informal meetings.

Design Delivery

Alongside a full upgrade and the external works, the refurbishment brought together fully refurbished office and common parts to meet modern occupier demands. This project firmly repositioned the building to attract and retain key tenants within Bristol, offering high-quality, adaptable spaces designed for flexibility, wellbeing, and sustainability. Smart building technologies, premium finishes, and enhanced connectivity ensure a future-proofed workplace that aligns with evolving business needs.

Sustainability

The project has been thoughtfully carried out with sustainability at its core, focusing on minimising waste and ensuring the building maintains a low carbon footprint throughout its lifecycle. Key sustainable measures include the reuse and recycling of materials, such as over 90% of RAF tiles, along with the installation of solar panels to generate electricity from renewable sources. The building also operates as a fully electric, gas-free space, utilising energy-efficient systems and renewable energy to reduce its environmental impact.

User Experience

The carefully planned external and internal interventions will significantly enhance the day-to-day working environment for both existing and future clients, creating a more comfortable and engaging space that supports productivity, wellbeing, and overall user experience. These features, combined with the thoughtful design, ensure that 3 Rivergate provides an inviting and functional setting for its occupants.

Flexibility / Commerciality

Large and flexible floorplates of up to 11,279 sq ft offer versatile space, allowing for easy adaptation to evolving needs. The addition of refreshment stations and breakout areas enhances flexibility, offering versatile spaces for collaboration and semi-private meetings. With a modular design, tenants can easily customise their environments to suit hybrid working models and adapt to shifting business needs.

The Exterior

A modern entrance with planters, feature signage, and improved lighting not only enhances curb appeal but also creates a strong, inviting identity for the building.

Lounge Area

By lifting the ceiling and optimising the lighting plane, the perception of space is amplified, creating a more open and inviting atmosphere to meet, greet and welcome occupants and visitors to 3 Rivergate.

Facilities Suite

The joinery package is crafted with exceptional quality, featuring durable laminates and natural veneers which are carefully tinted to suit the space and suite throughout. Slatted, bevelled, and lipped elements are introduced, along with open joint features and formed panels to add architectural appeal and interest.

3 Rivergate is a considerable refurbishment project, one that tackles identity, sustainability, health and wellbeing. The ambition was to move away from a traditional office setting to a creative, collaborative workplace, an environment that supports individuals in managing work-life rhythms.”
